the latest news from gbbc: give big green bay and more!
recapping 2022, updates about the 4th street garage, and why we're doing give big
Greetings, friends of GBBC!
The winter has gone by fast, and we have many updates to share about happenings at the Collective and the future of the community bike shop.
but first, a thank you
over $500 raised on giving tuesday 2022
As a small, majority volunteer-run nonprofit, we rely on generosity from supporters like you to operate our programs and improve accessibility to bicycling in the Green Bay community. Thanks to you, on Giving Tuesday this past year, we raised $562.37 that will be used to support our Mobile Bike Repair and Earn-a-Bike programs. Here are some examples of what that amount can supply to the Collective, and thereby the residents we serve:
12 bike repair tools from our Mobile Bike Repair tool wish list OR
A custom-sized toolbox for our Mobile Bike Repair cargo e-bike OR
11 refurbished and repaired kids bikes for the Earn-a-Bike program OR
Critical funds toward a new shop
Thank you to all who donated, liked or shared our posts on Facebook and Instagram, spread the word, or supported us in other ways. We couldn’t achieve our mission without you.

a busy and rewarding holiday season

This year, we brought a record number of bikes back to life, providing many cool new rides for young and old alike. At the end of the season, we donated 4 trailer loads of scrap bikes to the NWTC Art and Business Center for reuse in art and sculpture related projects. And, to close out the year, we repaired and donated 21 bikes to Toys for Tots.
But more important than the numbers are what they mean. The bikes, bike parts, and maintenance assistance we provided this season offer transportation and fun to others who can’t afford it or access it by other means. Thank you to our volunteers, donors, and supporters for helping make all of this possible.
a bittersweet announcement ...
this summer, we must part with the 4th street garage
Whether you’ve been with us since our founding or have just started following us, you probably know how much our 4th Street Garage means to us. It’s our first home, and it’s been integral to our operations for several years. Most importantly, it’s a gathering place for area youth, volunteers, and people who like bikes.
This summer, we’re saying goodbye to the 4th St. garage to allow for it to be developed into affordable housing for Green Bay residents.
While we are sad to say goodbye to our home, we are comforted by the fact that the space will continue to work for our community under NeighborWorks Green Bay, a nonprofit organization dedicated to solving housing challenges. We look forward to seeing this space evolve and continue to serve Green Bay residents!
As the summer approaches, we’ll announce further updates, but for the time being, we are searching for a new property to call home. Stay tuned for details and how you can help.
we will miss you, 4th street garage!
last but not least ...
help keep us rolling during give big green bay
While saying goodbye to our home base presents some challenges (we need a new home, and soon!), we are lucky to have once again been chosen to participate in Give BIG Green Bay. This year, we’re raising funds to help support our core programs, particularly Mobile Bike Repair, which we can continue operating without the garage. Donations raised for Mobile Bike Repair will go toward more tools, bike parts, and other supplies. We’ll also be raising funds to put towards our forever home.
If you’d like to support us during Give BIG Green Bay and help us continue to make Green Bay more bicycle-friendly, bookmark our profile and don’t forget to Give BIG on February 21-22 from noon-noon!
thank you for supporting bicycling for all!
We look forward to discovering what the new year brings, and we appreciate your continued support. If you want to stay up-to-date with the latest happenings, check out our other newsletters or follow us on Facebook or Instagram.
Thank you again for all you do to support our programs!
